Keep Balboa Park restrooms open and add portalets and hand wash stations.
Why this petition matters

There is currently a push to close public restrooms from 8pm to 6am at the Upas Street end of Balboa Park. San Diego has a known shortage of public restrooms in this area, as well as downtown. It is nearly impossible to find a clean usable toilet without purchasing something from a business. This is unacceptable. The residents specifically requesting the closure of the Balboa restrooms, cite the playground nearby and want clean restrooms for children. We all want that, however limiting access to restrooms can only cause larger and more dangerous issues. Decreasing access to restrooms and hand washing facilities can increase the spread of communicable diseases such as hepatitis, shingilla, hookworm, ect. We are asking the city to add portable toilets and hand wash stations to increase the availability of restrooms in Balboa Park. Restroom use is not optional. Adding more restrooms and maintaining the ones that are currently there should be a priority for our city to keep all of its residents safe and healthy.
