Keep Alsager's Household Waste Recycling Centre Open

Keep Alsager's Household Waste Recycling Centre Open
The Issue
Alsager has a well-established Household Waste Recycling Centre with usage figures and annual tonnage throughput that place it in the top 4 core sites in Cheshire East. Cheshire East Council has consulted on its Household Waste Recycling Centre provision with the option to keep 4 core sites open, including Alsager. However, a sub-option for consultation and consideration by Cheshire East Council is the replacement of Alsager's HWRC with a new site in Congleton. This is due to be considered at the Environment & Communities Committee Meeting of Cheshire East Council on September 26th. Alsager doesn't deserve to potentially lose its HWRC to pay for a new one in Congleton.
Congleton's closure was due to the sell off of the former site's land by Congleton Borough Council, and then the subsequent refusal of the private landowner to renew the lease with Congleton Borough Council's successor, Cheshire East Council a few years ago. Alsager's HWRC is vital for our community, providing an essential service that helps us manage our waste responsibly and sustainably.
Closing this facility in favour of a new one in Congleton would not only inconvenience residents but also create significant risks for Cheshire East Council in acquiring a new site, ensuring there was the right permissions to operate a new site and the affordability of a new site, with the sub-option not costed within the current Cheshire East Council Medium-Term Financial Strategy.
We the undersigned call upon Cheshire East Council to reject the sub-option of replacing Alsager's HWRC with a new one in Congleton, and keep Alsager's HWRC open as one of Cheshire East's core sites.
