Keep Alisha Green at Rose City Park to Protect Racial Balance and Equity
Keep Alisha Green at Rose City Park to Protect Racial Balance and Equity
The Issue
Ms. Green is set to be unassigned from Rose City Park next school year. Obviously this is devastating because she is an incredible educator. She is also Rose City Park's sole Black teacher. Per the district's Black Student Success Plan PPS determined that representation is a key factor in Black student graduation rates and sense of belonging. The district also committed to "dismantling systemic barriers" that cause educators of color to leave the district.
PPS spent millions on the Center for Black Student Excellence and has published research on the importance of Black mentors, yet they're allowing the only Black teacher in a diverse school to be unassigned because of a seniority rule that they have the power to override.
We demand the district apply Article 18.6.2.3 of the PAT contract, which allows for exceptions to seniority to maintain racial balance.
We call on the PPS Board and HR Department to rescind the unassignment of Alisha Green!
