As many of you have read, the Jasper Municipal Swimming Pool has recently closed and will be redesigned. The proposed plan was recently posted in early August 2023 with details of the proposed facility described in the Dubois County Free Press at https://www.duboiscountyfreepress.com/new-pool-focuses-on-fun/. The pool is aged and in need of an upgrade, yet the current proposed plan does NOT include a 50-meter pool as it is now.  In theory, the proposed plan looks fun and family friendly, but unfortunately by taking away the 50-meter pool, the city will be taking away a community asset and opportunities for our local swimmers to progress in their sport. The entire pool is utilized by many throughout the summer, not just the slide and diving boards. 

Our current pool is a 50-meter, Olympic standard, pool and has given our community a place to enjoy while still allowing our athletes to practice and train in an Olympic sized pool. Making the new pool facility without a 50-meter course would NOT be an upgrade. Several local swimming organizations utilize our current facility.  By building a smaller pool then what we currently have, it will hinder those who utilize it now.

Also, will it last another 60+ years for our growing community to enjoy if it is smaller than the one we already have? If the Regional Wellness Center moves forward, which proposed an indoor pool, its proposal still did not mention a 50-meter pool.

If you feel the new Jasper Municipal Pool proposal should include a 50-meter pool, the same size it is now, to continue to meet the demands of our community, please SIGN THIS PETITION. I encourage you to also write your local elected officials to voice your preference. If enough of us show support and feel strongly about this, maybe we can make an impact.
