The Issue

To: Riot Games

On August 20, 2026, Riot announced that active development on 2XKO will end in December, less than a year after launch. Riot cited player retention, but said the community response has been positive. We're that community, and we're asking Riot to keep the game going.

2XKO is a rare thing: a free-to-play, tag-team fighting game with a AAA budget, characters people already love, and a competitive scene that was just getting started. It was one of the most-entered games at EVO 2026. Fighting games are famously slow burns. Street Fighter, Guilty Gear and Tekken all grew for years after launch through patches, new characters and tournament support. Cutting 2XKO off after ten months doesn't give it that chance.

Pros and creators across the FGC have said the same thing: this game has too much potential to abandon, and it doesn't take a huge team to keep a fighting game alive.

We're not asking for the impossible. We're asking Riot to:

  1. Keep a small live team on 2XKO for balance patches, netcode fixes and seasonal content after December 2026.
  2. 2. Continue supporting community and third-party tournaments (online and offline) beyond November 2026.
  3. 3. Commit to keeping servers and ranked play online for the long term, and give the community a clear roadmap.
  4. 4. If Riot won't continue development, explore handing the game to a partner studio or opening it up to mods so the community can keep it alive.

Riot said they want to "do right by the players who have invested." The players who invested are asking for one thing: keep 2XKO alive.
