Kean Federation of Teachers Petition in Support of NJCU Professional Staff

Kean Federation of Teachers Petition in Support of NJCU Professional Staff
The Issue
Whereas, a smooth, successful merger of Kean University (KU) and New Jersey City University (NJCU) is critically important for all constituencies of both universities, and
Whereas, chronic understaffing of professional staff in their offices at Kean University is an ongoing problem that can be partially addressed by retaining NJCU professional staff, and
Whereas, NJCU professional staff have vast institutional knowledge of the NJCU campus, its employees, its facilities, and its students, and
Whereas, retention of NJCU professional staff will be critical to provide continuing Kean – Jersey City students with the services that they need and to promote the retention of KJC students, and
Whereas, fair labor-management practice calls for the honoring of professional staff contracts,
Therefore, we the undersigned members of the Kean Federation of Teachers bargaining unit, call on the administration of Kean University to take the following steps in support of our professional staff colleagues currently at NJCU:
1) Retention of all NJCU professional staff not taking the Voluntary Separation Program, who have been notified of layoff or non-reappointment, and
2) Maintaining the uninterrupted continuity of existing multi-year contracts and multi-year contracts set to begin July 1, 2026, and July 1, 2027, for NJCU professional staff transferring employment to KU, and
3) Transfer to KU the credit for all years served at NJCU to count towards the normal progression of multi-year contracts for NJCU professional staff transferring employment to KU.
