Massachusetts Homeless Help!

Massachusetts Homeless Help!
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call upon Representative Kay Khan and Senator Jennifer Flanagan to support Bill H. 119, An Act to End Child Homelessness, moving to the House floor for debate.
This petition was created by a class of 7th grade students at Josiah Quincy Upper School who wanted to address the issue of homelessness in Massachusetts. While the homeless population nationwide has decreased by 11% since 2007, the homeless population in MA has increased by 40% in the same time. We are specifically concerned with child homelessness, because in 2010 homeless children made up 30% of the homeless population in Boston.
In order to address this growing problem, we are asking our state legislature to pass Bill H. 119, An Act to End Child Homelessness. Bill H. 119 says that any families with children under the age of 18 cannot be evicted from public housing until they have been found a new, safe place to live. It would be a preventative measure to keep children and families from being evicted. This bill is currently in the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities, and must be chosen by Committee Chairs Representative Kay Khan and Senator Jennifer Flanagan before being voted on by the MA Congress.
