The Falls at Green Meadows is a newly established neighborhood located within the City of Katy also known as Katy Proper.  Many of its residents have children who are currently enrolled at Katy Elementary.  Due to the size and continuation of construction, Katy ISD is proposing that a portion of the neighborhood be re-zoned to a new elementary school located 4.9 miles away off of I-10 and Pederson Road.  The purpose of this petition is to block the proposed Attendance Boundary Modification and to strongly encourage the Katy ISD Board of Trustees to keep 100% of Falls at Green Meadows zoned to Katy Elementary.  It is no secret that Katy Elementary is ranked #1 amongst public schools in the City of Houston and surrounding areas.  For this reason, majority of its residents have spent thousands of dollars to strategically relocate their families to neighborhoods that are zoned to Katy Elementary.  In addition, the commute that would be forced upon these families would be strenuous for several key reasons: 1) Parents who hold careers downtown would be unable to make it to their offices by 9 AM due to traffic concerns after traveling well out of their way 2) There is already a shortage of buses and resources to transport children to and from school and their bus stops AND 3) Unnecessary lengthy commutes whether by bus or car increases the chances of traffic incidents and puts children at risk more often then they should be. Therefore, it is the request of the Residents at Falls at Green Meadows to not divide it's neighbors by schools and to keep 100% of their children zoned to Katy Elementary from this point going forward.  If a neighborhood resides within Katy Proper then it should rightfully be zoned to the schools located within Katy Proper!
