Save Moriah Shock

Save Moriah Shock
The Issue
As you all know, earlier this week the governor announced the closure of Moriah Shock. This closure will be determential to hundreds of families, the whole town of Moriah, the surrounding communities of the north country, the future inmates who are no longer able to get a second chance at life and the state as a whole.
To her, she just sees shock as another "prison" on a piece of paper. She doesn't know that shock is actually a rehabilitation center where inmates are not locked behind bars and laying around all day watching tv. They are working within our communities learning a sense of worth and trade skills. They are going to school and receiving a GED. They are being treated like soldiers in boot camp, learning discipline, responsibility and teamwork. These "inmates" are learning essential life skills that will help better their lives after graduation. They are all getting a second chance at life. Yes, some may fall right back in to their old ways after graduating, but some also change their whole life around thanks to this amazing program! What does an actual "prison" do for them? Absolutely Nothing. Shock does it all. We need more Shock Facilities!
I can spend the next few hours discussing all the bad that will come out of closing shock - the lost of help in our communities, the need to hire paid employees to do the work the inmates do, the lost of jobs, the lost of families that need to move closer to other correctional facilities, the rise in taxes, the list goes on and on.
With that being said, I urge you all to please sign this petition and to reach out to the governor. Tell her to come visit the shock facility herself! Tell her your stories, your thoughts, your feelings and your fears! We as a community will not go down without a fight!
