Dr. Kathleen Lynn a former Teachta Dála, suffragette and 1916 Rising veteran was a co-founder of Saint Ultan's Hospital for Infants which catered for the children of Dublin's poor. The hospital was the only one in Ireland entirely managed by women. It grew rapidly, and from 1937 became the centre for BCG vaccination in Ireland.
