Provide justice for Ammu

Provide justice for Ammu
The Issue
On March 15 2016, Ammu's (female stray dog) litter of eight puppies were mercilessly flung onto the boulders, allegedly by Ponnamma, the wife of an ex-honorary flight lieutenant, a resident of this Jallahalli West neighbourhood, Bangalore, India. This she did reportedly to "teach the dog a lesson", who had dared to have puppies in a drain under her gate. While seven of the puppies died the same day, one that survived the brutality succumbed the next day. The impact was such that "some of the pups' intestines were out".
Five days since the incident, Ammu still wanders around the site where her puppies are buried. The intermittent wails of four-year-old Ammu, that grew up among the residents of Lane No. 3, Krishnanagar, off Tumkur Road, can still be heard and the residents are haunted by the memory of the dog digging her 15-day-old puppies out of their graves and trying to nurse them.
The accused was arrested but later released on bail. What's worse is that Ponnamma is remorseless. "When she was asked about it, she just said, achcha nahi laga ), fek diya (didn't like it, threw it),".
The investigation is on and the charge sheet will be submitted but justice for Ammu is still a long way off for this mother who had to witness her pups being killed in cold blood for no reason. If proved guilty, Ponnamma could end up in prison for up to five years only. Such people should be kept away from the society for life since they pose a serious threat to the fellow beings and animals alike.
I plead to the government, the judiciary and to the Police authority that such heinous acts should not go unpunished and Ponnamma should be thrust with heavy fine and long prison sentence so that it becomes a deterrent to others like her in the society.
Thank you.
