Bypass road between Narendra cross and Gabboor cross, popularly known as Hubballi-Dharwad bypass, is a 30 Km double lane road on National Highway No.4. It is one of the most busiest roads in India connecting Pune and Bengaluru. It also connects two important cities of North Karnataka i.e. Hubballi and Belagavi. Movement of heavy Goods vehicles as well as passenger vehicles is very high.

This road has become a biggest bottleneck for the commuters as being a only a double lane road. The national highway on other sides of this 30 KM stretch has been converted into 6 lane under Golden Quadrilateral project many years back. This stretch has remained as a narrow double lane because  this is maintained by Nandi Highway Developers Limited(NHDL), a private entity. The bypass was constructed in the early 2000 under BOT (build, operate and transfer) by Nandi Highway Developers Ltd (NHDL) as per a tripartite agreement between developer, State Government and Central Government. Toll charged is 65 Rs. for the stretch of 30 KM is also too high.

The major concern with this narrow road is, it has become a death trap. Many accidents are happening on this stretch frequently taking the lives of many people since many years. Now it can not bear the increase in the traffic in last 20 years. On 30th December, 2019, two people died in head on collision between car and tanker. On 26th January 2020, 4 people expired in another head on collision between two cars. These are few instances. Many such horrible accidents have taken place on this bypass. Majority of the accidents are head on collisions indicating the lack of space for vehicles to avoid the collision.

Through this petition request the authorities to convert this road into a six lane and save lives of many people.
