Louisburg For Change started this petition to Karl T. Pernell and

People of Louisburg: It is time where we address the confederate statue on N Main Street. This is a highly controversial figure that has the potential to cause civil unrest and imposes a negative image on the community. This statue has carried a system of values that negatively impacts marginalized groups in the area and has been identified as a symbol of oppression.

Considering the recent events in this country, the removal of this statue is a step in the right direction. We have seen the outrage statues of this type have caused in cities like Charlottesville, VA. Our town, local businesses, and our reputation would not be able to recover from said outrage any time soon if it were to happen.

With this statue removed, we can help Louisburg enter a new era of progression and opportunity. This figure of controversy would no longer have an impact on the town.

Signing this petition will show the Mayor and city council members that there is a desire to have the statue removed from the city in a peaceful manner.
