The LA Clippers, Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario and the Forum ask you to join us in support of making Juneteenth a national holiday. It’s not a new idea, but we believe that it’s the right one and that together our voices can make a difference.

Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19th. According to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, it honors the day in 1865 that Union troops announced to more than 250,000 enslaved people in the state of Texas that they were free by executive decree, following the Emancipation Proclamation’s issuance two and a half years earlier. The day came to be known as Juneteenth by the newly freed people, and marks our country’s second independence day.

In our ongoing effort to challenge ourselves and others to end racism and level the playing field, the Clippers, Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario and the Forum are pausing business on Friday, June 19th to celebrate Juneteenth as a paid company holiday in order to create space for reflection, education, action and engagement to advance racial equality. Please join us.
