Many people around the world have been outraged by recent video footage of Taiwanese Marines hanging a dog and filming the act, abusing the dog until it died.

Two days ago, Kaohsiung City Councilor Chen Hsin-yu posted a video on YouTube which showed a white dog dangling from a chain around its neck for about 40 seconds before hanging to death.

The incident was first reported in 'The News Lens', an independent bilingual website based in Taiwan and Hong Kong reporting on news from around the globe and within Greater China:

Whilst the soldiers responsible have been identified, the military organisation has decided to conduct its own investigation, stopping the Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office from conducting their own investigation because it is claimed that they had 'failed to go through the appropriate procedures.'

It is imperative that this incident is thoroughly investigated through the appropriate channels, and that the offenders are brought to justice.
