As a leading voice on race and oppression in the United States your actions send an important message to those who follow your music. Boycotting a present-day apartheid state you will be proving that your commitment to justice and equality is as strong globally as it is in America. Your voice and presence carry power and will be sending a message that discriminating people based on race, ethnicity, and/ or religion as Israel continuously does not only to its Palestinian populations but to its Ethiopian members is never ok. As a lifetime fan of your music, your message has resonated with me as a Palestinian, as an activist, and more importantly, as a human being. It would be a great disservice to all the good your music inspires for your visit to Israel to further legitimize a place that opposes all that you stand for. Just like many of the artists who you have quoted as inspiration did in Sun City, South Africa at the height of apartheid in the '80s, your boycott of Israel could have life-changing consequences to many. Please respect the Palestinian civil society call to boycott, divest, and sanction from the apartheid state of Israel.
