Change in K-State policy to begin investigating off campus sexual assault and violence

Change in K-State policy to begin investigating off campus sexual assault and violence
The Issue
For the past several years Kansas State University has refused to investigate and adjudicate accusations of sexual assault and violence reported by students because they occurred in locations which were off campus.
This petition calls for a change in that policy to allow the Office of Institutional Equity to investigate these off campus allegations of sexual assaults and violence.
It also asks that Kansas State take steps toward helping survivors of sexual assault and rape. Steps toward this goal include but aren't limited to;
- Immediate action by the university to ensure that students can continue their education free of sexual violence or harassment
- Financial accommodations to ensure students can receive counseling, tutoring, medical expenses, or a change in residence, class schedule, campus job, or extracurricular activity if needed
- Investigation into the allegation whether it occurred on-campus or off which should be concluded in a 60 day time span
- Training for university employees on how to identify, report, and handle sexual violence
As a university that prides itself on the value of Family this is unacceptable; but together we can create the change needed to help victims of sexual assault receive the support and closure they need.
