Fund the Old Blue River Trail Connection (Beautification Grant)

It is currently impossible to safely and comfortably ride your bike or walk to Wal-Mart and surrounding businesses from anywhere in town. This small connection trail and crosswalk to be built as part of the Old Blue River Beautification Project will pave the way for over 30,000 residents, including KSU students and those living east of campus to safely and comfortably bike or walk to eastside businesses. This project will also pave the way for us to acquire funds at a later date (but hopefully soon!) to complete the Old Blue River Trail which will then allow Northview residents to access eastside businesses and bike or walk to campus and downtown, a feat that is currently very dangerous if not impossible.
Many residents just west of Tuttle Creek Boulevard can walk out their front door and see Wal-Mart and the surrounding businesses and restaurants "just down the street" - but they cannot walk or bike there because there is no crosswalk or safe sidewalk access. There is a beautiful wide multi-use path on the north side of McCall, but it goes unused because it is inaccessible to residents of our town.
The city is now applying for a grant through the Kansas Department of Transportation's (KDOT) Transportation Alternatives Program that would solve all of these problems while also beautifying the area just east of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. These grants are highly competitive and they need to demonstrate to KDOT that they have strong community support. You can demonstrate that support by signing this petition.
