On June 9th 2015, 22 cats were seized from the home of Amanda Woods, director of Karen and Friends Rescue. The cats were recovering from giardia, campylobacter, and ringworm. Kanawha Charleston Humane Association is calling this a hoarding case and pressed animal cruelty charges, which were dropped. They are now pressing charges for animal cruelty misdemeanor against Woods. Woods has filed a civil suit against the shelter and employees responsible for this case because they failed to provide vet care to her cats for 20 days, suspicions regarding the euthanization of the foster cats since several had just seen a vet and were declared healthy but the shelter declared them sick, and they had "lost" one of the seized owned cats. It has since been found the no kill shelter "erroneously euthanized" the owner's cat while the case was still pending a preliminary trial.
