Add additional safety signage for Paddlers on the South Thompson River in Kamloops

Add additional safety signage for Paddlers on the South Thompson River in Kamloops
The Issue
There have been many dangerous close encounters between motorboats and recreational paddlers and other river users along the South Thompson in Kamloops. Especially dangerous are motorboats and jet skis that choose to drive fast and perform stunts in the narrow section of the South Thompson at Pioneer Park. For this reason, the Kamloops Paddling Partnership has decided to put forward a letter and a petition to ask the city of Kamloops to add additional safety signage and for increased enforcement of existing safe boating laws and regulations by the RCMP.
Most boats on the river are respectful and do slow down in this busy area, however, some people act recklessly and showboat or perform stunts which is especially dangerous as it is a boat launch and there are several paddling clubs operating out of Pioneer Park including: TRIPS, Kamloops Canoe and Kayak, Wailua Outrigger, Spirit Warriors, Kamloops Interior Dragons, and the Kamloops Dragon Boat Club. Additionally, there is a new private kayak rental operating in the area and a proposal for paddle board rentals out of Riverside Park. This section of river is becoming increasingly busy with paddlers, many who are just learning.
The City of Kamloops in partnership with higher levels of government and all stakeholders and user groups should install better signage at the Pioneer Park Boat Launch and the various bridges (CN, Red, and Highway 5 Bridges and the Riverside Pier and pilings) that says "Watch for Paddlers. Minimize Wake. No Stunting." Additional orange caution buoys at Pioneer Park may also be useful.
