On March 9, 2016, the California legal community, and all citizens interested in the vindication of constitutional rights against the abuses of overzealous prosecutors, suffered a startling and infuriating indignity.  District Attorney investigator, Dillon Alley, viciously attacked a criminal defense attorney in Orange County who was recently awarded a new trial for his client after exposing yet another instance of misconduct (following the recent exposure of systematic misconduct) within the District Attorney's office.  James Crawford was beaten savagely.  Dillon Alley's actions are cowardly, despicable, and he must be held accountable.

This recent escalation into violence is part and parcel of a culture within prosecution circles, and particularly within the Orange County District Attorney's office, that mistreats and abuses criminal defendants as they assert their constitutional rights, and abuses and intimidates the legal professionals assisting defendants in their efforts.

It's time to put pressure on California Attorney General Kamala Harris to intervene and take a stand against the 'epidemic of prosecutorial misconduct' as she was advised by 9th circuit Judge Alex Kozinski long ago.  Had Mr. Alley been a Public Defender investigator and attacked a prosecutor, we can be reasonably certain that he would have been arrested immediately.  It's time to hold the employees of prosecution offices to the same standards.  Arrest Dillon Alley, and charge him with felony assault.
