The House of Representative's Committee on Health, headed by Congw. Helen Tan convened a Technical Working Group (TWG) on all cancer bills, yesterday, December 7, 2017. The TWG, created last September was chaired by Congw. Sandra Eriguel, who presented a substitute version of the bill covering multiple provisions lifted from the numerous cancer measures filled in the House. This include bills authored by Reps. Geraldine Roman, Alfred Vargas, Angelina D.L. Tan, Estrellita B. Suansing, Maximo B. Rodriguez, Jr., Sol Aragones, Winston Castelo, Evelina G. Escudero, Maria Vida E. Bravo, Gary C. Alejano, Lianda B. Bolilia, Wes Gatchalian, Alexei B. Nograles, Jericho Jonas B. Nograles, Bernadette Herrera-Dy, Chiqui Roa-Puno, and Scott Davies S. Lanete. Congw. Chiqui Roa-Puno and Congw. Geraldine Roman passionately articulated their respective positions on the different aspects of the cancer bill, including the Rights of Cancer Patients, and the establishment of regional cancer centers that will provide comprehensive cancer care and treatment. Cancer Coalition Philippines participated in the discussion, along with representatives from DOH, DOLE, DBM, SSS, GSIS, PhilHealth, DSWD, DILG among others. The Coalition is looking forward to more discussion to ensure that the bill will address the real plight of Filipinos fighting cancer.
