Dear Kevin (aka k-os)

Your art and activism over the years have inspired millions. Your support for animal rights and environmental causes such as the David Suzuki Foundation means a lot to communities like ours. That is why we, the residents of Saint John, New Brunswick, are reaching out.

You probably already know that the rapid development of hyperscale AI data centres is having a massive impact on communities and the environment, not to mention the impact AI is having on recording artists and marginalized communities around the world.

Throughout North America, the speed of this development is outpacing power grids, to the point where data centres are now resorting to companies like VoltaGrid to provide power with generators powered by fossil fuels. This is exactly what is happening in Saint John, New Brunswick, with VoltaGrid leading the charge - and is now projected to produce more than 750,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year.

This data centre is planned to be developed on local wetlands, which has been an essential part of the local ecosystem for generations. Residents throughout the area have spoken up to raise the alarm about the impacts on the environment, their well water, and the impacts on the power grid.

With VoltaGrid now listed as a major sponsor for Moonlight Bazaar, we wanted you and your team to be fully aware of the impact this development is having on our community. So we are inviting you to reflect on this, reflect on your values, and consider withdrawing from this event.
