Allow Pit Bulls To Be Adopted From The Pickaway County Shelter

Allow Pit Bulls To Be Adopted From The Pickaway County Shelter
The Issue
Pickaway County Commissioners have made it so Pit Bulls cannot be adopted directly out of the Pickaway County shelter. Instead you must contact a rescue to pull the pit bull from the shelter and adopt it to you. Any other dog at the shelter has a simple $55 adoption fee but pit bulls require a home visit, vet records, and a larger ($175) adoption fee. When I spoke with Mr. Stewart and Mr. Henson both said they feel no need to change the policy because in two years no pit bulls have had to be euthanized for space but I tried to explain to them how this is still discrimination and that this needs changed. They said that pit bulls were just too dangerous and a "liability" for the county. They also said surrounding shelters have the same policy which is not true. Ohio got rid of it's dangerous dog list in 2012 but Pickaway County Commissioners refuse to change. Many of those dogs are just stuck in the shelter with a very slim chance of leaving just because the breed and it's not fair. Please sign and share this petition so we can show the commissioners we want the public to be able to adopt pit bulls directly out of the shelter like any other dog!
