UPDATE:
For starters, the amount of support this petition has gotten is mind-blowing. As I write this, we are at 15,000 signatures. This has gotten to a point beyond my wildest imagination, but the school board still needs convincing.
During the special board meeting on April 13, 2021, trustees brought up the “compromise” of turning these music programs into clubs, run by volunteers. Many feel it was a slap in the face. The music programs throughout our region are already significantly underfunded. These teachers that are passionate about their students, and the art they're creating with their sound, will not be paid. The music program already has to hold fundraisers to keep itself going. We understand that there is a deficit, but explore all of your options. Get the public's vote for which option is best.
Our academics express our critical thinking, our music expresses our creativity, our emotions, ourselves. School builds the stepping stones toward our future, decisions like this cause those stones to crack, and possibly shatter.
