Royal Borough of Greenwich to have its own grammar school

Royal Borough of Greenwich to have its own grammar school
The Issue
Although children in Greenwich are allowed to sit the 11+ exam, there are no grammar or selective schools in the borough.
Demand for grammar schools far outstrip the supply so even if the children manage to pass the challenging exam, there is no guarantee that they will secure a place in neighbouring Bexley and Bromley, where the schools are located.
Even if they pass the 11+, the average travelling time to a grammar school by public transport from Greenwich is 1-2 hours each day. This is far from ideal, considering the children are as young as 11 years of age. They have to wake up earlier than local residents and reach home later, giving them less time to rest and complete a demanding homework timetable.
It is suggested that the Blackheath Bluecoat Church of England School which was closed in 2014 (the premises remains vacant) could be used as a possible site.
