Initial Goal - Met & Passed! Let's keep the momentum going.

Thank you very much to all who have signed so far - and thank you to those who will in the future and may read this. After just 3 days of creating this petition we have already surpassed the intial goal :)! It's very encouraging to me that many others care about this as well and are willing to help make a change. It's also been very motivating to read your thoughts and comments and I sympathize with those who have had similar stories of disease, loss of a loved one, and heartbreak. Their pain and suffering will not be for nothing. That is my goal. As far as how this whole thing works - each time someone signs their name to this petition, a copy of the petition is emailed to our designated decision maker(s). The decision maker is the person of authority who has the power to make change. In this case it's Justin Trudeau. But I have also recently added Jane Philpott - Minister of Health, as well. So to summarize, each time someone signs the petition, an email is sent to both of these people. The more people that sign, the harder it is for our government to ignore the issue. The goals are not a requirement to make the petition successful. The petition goes for as long as needed until enough signatures are obtained that a change HAS to happen. So each time we meet a current goal, a new one will take its place, and there is no time limit other than the one that we place on this ourselves, if we want the dangers of asbestos to be deemed a matter of urgency. The more people that sign, and the faster/sooner they do, the quicker a ban will have to happen and hopefully more lives will be saved. A few notes, I myself am still getting used to using this site and trying to understand how it works. So with that said if anyone is experiencing technical problems please let me know because I want to make sure that things like that aren't affecting anyone's ability to sign. Also if you think you signed but you're not sure if your signature went through, let me know and I can check the list to see if your name is there. One thing I have ascertained is when you sign in via Facebook, an account is automatically made for you. If you want to sign in via your email after this, simply use the "forgot password" feature and the opportunity to create a "new" password will be sent to the email address associated with your Facebook account. Thanks again everybody. And if I can urge one thing here, one difference you and we can make immediately, while aiming for an asbestos ban, is at the very least inform those around you, those you care about. I did not know about mesothelioma before my Dad was diagnosed with this cancer. I didn't even know that much about asbestos other than it was bad for you and that they didn't use it anymore (or so I thought). My Dad lost everything so quickly in just a couple of months. He made no peace with anything or anyone, he suffered greatly and it's been a horrible sadness on my entire family. He didn't deserve that. If I had only known more about this cancer and disease earlier in life I might have urged my Dad to talk about it with his doctor, knowing he'd worked with and been exposed to asbestos fibres. If you think you were exposed, or you think your Dad was, or Mom was, or uncle or aunt...show them this petition and give them some information because an early detection/diagnosis could have made a HUGE difference for my Dad. I hope that maybe someone you know or love can have what he didn't. Thanks again, Sharon.
