The national anthem of Canada includes the phrase "God keep our land" a reference to the Abrahamic god of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

In Canada the "non religious" make up nearly 25% of the population (23.9% in 2011). To those who don't practice religion, having someone else's belief system forced upon them in such a way can be very frustrating.  The national anthem of the country should be inclusive of all Canadians and not marginalize a whole group of people based on their beliefs.

Changes have already been proposed to make the anthem more gender neutral to not marginalize an entire group based on their sex and/or gender identity. This is and should be hailed as an excellent progressive advancement for our society, one that has always been on the forefront of human rights here and around the world.

It is because of this that we ask the Prime Minister of Canada, the Honorable Justin Trudeau to bring forth legislation to amend the national anthem to reflect the citizens of this nation as a whole and not continue to marginalize an entire group of people based on their beliefs. All mentions of the Abrahamic deity should be removed, and replaced with something all Canadians can get behind.

Remember that in the end, "WE keep our land, glorious and free."
