Whereas:
We, the Canada Marijuana Legalization Concern Group, is very concerned about this issue because edible cannabis will put young children at a higher risk of unintended exposure. We have learned about cases where children had innocently taken candies and chocolates with cannabis and were hospitalized. Any proposed regulations, which may sound good on paper, are difficult to implement. For example, how could a child read and fully understand the warning labels on a pack of cannabis-infused chocolate? How could parents prevent their children from receiving a homemade cookie with cannabis ingredients that was being given to them by a classmate?
 
Whereas:
We oppose the legalization of edible cannabis for these reasons:
1)There is no safe dosage of cannabis for children. It is much easier for children to be exposed to cannabis when it is made into edible forms.
2)There is a high risk that children may ingest cannabis accidentally.
3)Cannabis has more appeal to children when made into the form of a food product.
4)There is no foolproof labelling or warning that will work for all children.
5)There is no way to control unsupervised production, such as homemade products.
6)There are liability issues for homemade cannabis-infused edible products.
 
THEREFORE, WE, the undersigned, Citizens or residents of Canada, ask the federal government not to legalize edible cannabis products until these issues can be addressed:
1) The liability of commercial and homemade producers on the consequences of people consuming their products.
2) The easy distinction of edible cannabis from other forms of snacks that children may not be
confused.
3) Effective warnings, packaging, and labelling restrictions.
4) The sale of edible cannabis being confined to designated locations only.
5) Effective prevention of accidental consumption, misuse, or overdosage.
6) Effective measures to prevent and control impaired driving.
