I remember a time when the news was the reporting of facts. Not the reporting of opinion posing as facts to support a particular narrative or agenda.
I am currently writing this update from Washington State. Yes, I braved the great COVID WALL of the 49th parallel. For reference, I did not drive here. No that would make too much sense. Just my wife and I in our personal vehicle and no contact with anyone on our journey aside the border guard at the crossing. No no no....We had to FLY!!! Yes, go to an International Airport, board a jet with many other people and then rent a car in Seattle to drive north. So by the time I'm done my journey, my wife and I will have visited 2 International Airports and flown on two moderately full commercial airliners. Not to mention the interactions with the car rental company twice. Which path is more risky? Drive down, or come the way we have? Oh, and this was all so I could close down my US based weekend retreat which is a mere 40 minute drive from my home in Canada. Simply ridiculous!!!!
I have to say that my observations are different than what is being reported. People here are taking COVID seriously.
- Everyone is wearing a mask in public.
- If you are not wearing one, you will be told to put one on or one will be provided to you
- there are hand sanitize stations everywhere
- I see no evidence of a Zombie Apocalypse at all. (Odd since the Cdn media would have you think otherwise)
- There are not people walking around toting guns and rioting in the streets (at least not in my travels through Seattle and northward)
- people are calm and sensible
- people are not gathering in hordes spreading the virus indiscriminately
And....for those Americans I've spoken to, they will not cross the border to Canada until such time as the COVID situation improves dramatically and the need for a 14 day quarantine is no longer required. They are happy to stay home for now.
So, just thought I'd share that the situation in WA state seems very good to me and I would argue people here are even more responsible and serious about COVID than what I've been seeing in Greater Vancouver of late.
For your information and consideration folks.
