Justice for Takaya, Canadian Sea Wolf killed by hunters
The Issue
Beloved sea wolf Takaya, a lone wolf residing close to Canada's Discovery Island, was shot and killed by hunters, Tayaka was a rare species of wolf known as the coastal or sea wolf. These wolves live mainly close to marine environments, feeding off seals, fish and shellfish and are completely unique among wolves. There are only estimated to be 250 of these wolves remaining in the wild, living around the small Islands off the coast of Canada, including Vancouver and Discovery Islands. Takaya, over the 8 years he resided on these Islands, was very much beloved of local residents, until he was shot and killed by hunters, leaving those in Canada to mourn his loss deeply, the majority of whom are now demanding stricter laws around the hunting of wild animals. We call on Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, to begin restricting hunting rights, in order to protect beloved wild animals such as Takaya from future harm.
