Join Us: Protect the Peace Tree on Victoria Island: Honour the Prophecy
Why this petition matters

Before Canada, the National Capital Region was a hub for peace, gratitude, ceremony and trade from all four directions of Turtle Island.
The natural capital flourished under the protection of its white pine forest canopy and the truth of reconciliation was spoken through the thundering voice of Chaudiere Falls: Akikodjiwan.
The re-planting of the Peace Tree on Victoria Island in 2015 fulfilled an ancient prophecy. Now the Peace Tree faces possible destruction by the federal National Capital Commission (NCC). They are claiming that Victoria Island, this place of the people for millennia, requires closing for 7 years of decontamination. Now fenced off, spiritual and community gatherings are forbidden.
In the spirit of peace, we ask that the NCC ensure that the prophesized Peace Tree remains unaffected by this process; that it be protected with concrete barriers; and that its planters be permitted to care for the tree during this time. We lament that it was moved in December 2019 and worry the NCC may not be very committed to its protection
