IT'S TIME TO CHANGE THE YOUTH CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT
The Issue
My daughter was shot November 30, 2014 and as a result was paralyzed from the chest down and came very close to losing her life. Four months after the shooting she again was fighting for her life. She went in to cardiac arrest twice and they lost her for five minutes. This is what we will have to worry about for the rest of her life as all her organs are compromised. Because of her injuries she will have fifteen years taken away from her life expectancy. She will have to live knowing that the bullet that changed her world will forever be lodged in her spinal cord, unable to be removed because it would take her life.
Although the youth did not pull the trigger, they were very aware of what was going to happen and were present when the shooting occurred. Two of them were arrested at school the next day, not one of them went to police to report what happened and did not take responsibility until they were offered a lesser charge. In the beginning they were charged with three counts of attempted murder. In the end they were convicted of Aggravated assault, robbery and concealing their face to commit a crime. They were sentenced to a total of one and a half years in a Youth detention facility. All were within a couple months of there eighteenth birthday when the crime was committed. They will be out in May 2016
We all know how easy the justice system goes on these youth and the youth know what they can get away with. As you all know, we no longer live in a world where the ones we feared as kids were the ones with the strongest punch. Our youth are killing or seriously injuring others. Their first thought is to use a weapon to fix their problems or take what is not theirs. This needs to stop. I have seen so many people comment on crimes youth are committing, saying things need to change. Well if we a don't stand up and force that change, it will never happen. Lets make Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hear us LOUD AND CLEAR.

LETS MAKE YOUTH THINK TWICE BEFORE COMMITTING A HORENDOUS ACT. LETS HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS
I BELIEVE THAT YOUTH WHO COMMITT A VIOLENT ACT SHOULD BE CHARGED AS AN ADULT AND RECIEVE AN ADULT SENTENCE. KEEP THEM IN A YOUTH FACILITY UNTIL THEY REACH EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE AND THEN SEND THEM TO AN ADULT PRISON TO CARRY OUT THE REMAINDER OF THEIR SENTENCE
