Two days short of the one year anniversary of the tragic Bamfield bus accident that claimed the lives of to young UVIC students: Emma Machado and John Geerdes, the province has committed to improving the road from Port Alberni to Bamfield.

It is a bittersweet moment to know that this road will become safer in the future for all to travel, but to know that it cost so many their lives before doing so.

I want to acknowledge all those who signed this petition and those who took the time to share it and follow along through the months. To you I offer the most sincere Thank-You, although this petition was merely a platform for those to support a cause that was long in the works before it had ever effected my own life, know that being here and providing the presence you have, and showing the world how many people who cared, undoubtedly had to be considered during the decision making on whether or not to release the funding for the project that was well overdue.

It is communities like this who care enough to seek real change in the world that make differences, and that your contribution will go to fuelling the local economy, provide jobs, and most importantly, save lives.

This petition has been dedicated to Emma Machado and John Geerdes

Rest In Peace.
