In 2010, the United States passed a bill proposing that the slaughter of horses is illegal, and therefore all known slaughterhouses were discontinued. Since then, the horse slaughter industry is still going strong in unregulated slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico, where the horses from the US are being transported to for profit. They endure a horrible, crowded, and long journey, making their inevitable deaths slow and painful, not to mention inhumane. Horses have been a part of the United States culture for hundreds of years, and world culture for thousands. The disrespect towards these creatures is disgusting and immoral.
