Elizabeth May for Minister of the Environment

Elizabeth May for Minister of the Environment
Why this petition matters
Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,
Congratulations on your sweeping majority! This new parliament will hopefully be a turning point for Canada to regain its standing on the world stage, especially on the topic of environmental action. Your party won partly on your promise for change, including how a Liberal party government would work with other parties to create the strongest Canada possible. In light of this, I propose the following: please appoint Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party, to the Environment portfolio in your new Cabinet. I can think of no Member of Parliament, from any party, who would better represent the concerns of Canadians on this topic, both at home and abroad. We need a strong voice in Paris, and November 30th is coming up quickly. Please put aside partisan politics, and live up to your promise: appoint the best people to your cabinet, regardless of party affiliation. Let's work together to make Canada the best it can be.
[Edit: I realise it might be a bit idealistic to expect a cabinet position for Ms. May, even if PM Trudeau would allow her to retain her Green Party status whilst doing so, which is unlikely. I'm really not that naive. But if a petition like this (or others) can impress on him how much support she has, we can hope for some measure of change. At very least she could, as one article pointed out, be named a Special Envoy to the climate discussions in Paris. In any case, she needs to know that we support her and what she stands for.]
