Neonicotinoids are killing our honey bees, who play a vital role in our society. In North America, they are responsible for pollinating over 95 different types of fruits and nuts. Every 1 out of 3 bites of food we take is pollinated by the disappearing honey bees. Seven species of yellow-faced bees have officially been added to the endangered species list as of September 30, 2016. In addition, the dollar value that they have has a great economic impact - a value of 265 billion dollars for the plants that they pollinate each year. Neonicotinoids is a pesticide sprayed over a large number of crops in North America and is the most widely used insecticide in the world. While bees are pollinating plants and crops, they come in contact with the pesticide and may transfer it to it's hive. If the bee is in contact with a large amount of neonicotinoids, they simply die because it attacks their nervous system. However, if a small dose is transferred, bees may forget how to navigate their way home, get lost and eventually die alone. These pesticides need to be banned, or an alternative needs to be discovered. Ban the neonicotinoids, our bees are dying!
