Justicia para Frida: No más corrupción ni impunidad en su caso

Queremos agradecer profundamente a todas las personas que han firmado esta petición y que siguen acompañándonos en estos tres años de lucha. Gracias a ustedes, la voz de Frida sigue viva y fuerte. 💜

El pasado 2 de septiembre recibimos una buena noticia: el juez de control de Sahuayo rechazó la suspensión provisional que pedía la defensa del feminicida. La Fiscalía de Michoacán, a través de la Fiscalía de Feminicidios, también se opuso y eso nos dio un respiro de esperanza. Pero el camino no está libre de obstáculos.

Sin embargo, el 8 de septiembre, la defensa de Juan Paulo N interpuso un recurso de apelación contra esa resolución. Esto significa que el caso subirá al Tribunal de Alzada y serán magistrados quienes tomen la decisión. Aquí es donde más necesitamos que el Poder Judicial de Michoacán actúe conforme a derecho, con perspectiva de género y libre de cualquier corrupción o tráfico de influencias.

⚠️ Nos preocupa que entre los nuevos magistrados se encuentre Mario Sotelo Rodríguez, quien este próximo lunes 15 de septiembre toma protesta como magistrado y quien es el exjuez de control de Sahuayo, que en 2022 permitió  la reclasificación ilegal a homicidio culposo y el juicio abreviado, lo que dejó en libertad a Juan Paulo N en 2023. No podemos permitir que alguien que ya favoreció al agresor vuelva a tener injerencia en el caso.

Por eso, mantenemos y reforzamos nuestras exigencias:
⚖️ Que el caso se juzgue como feminicidio, tal como lo ordenó el Tribunal Colegiado.
⚖️ Que no regrese a Jiquilpan, una fiscalía marcada por corrupción y favoritismo.
⚖️ Que el Poder Judicial garantice imparcialidad, sin compadrazgos ni favores políticos.
⚖️ Que los magistrados actúen con perspectiva de género y respetando los derechos de las víctimas.

On September 2nd, we received hopeful news: the judge in Sahuayo rejected the suspension request made by the defense of the feminicide. The Michoacan Prosecutor’s Office, through the Specialized Prosecutor for Feminicides, also opposed the request. This gave us a brief moment of relief and hope. But the path is still full of obstacles.

On September 8th, Juan Paulo N’s defense filed an appeal against that decision. This means the case now goes to the Michoacan's Court of Appeals, where magistrates will decide. This is exactly where we need the Judiciary of Michoacan to act according to the law, with gender perspective, and free of corruption or political influence.

⚠️ We are especially concerned that among the new magistrates is Mario Sotelo Rodroguez, who will take office on September 15th. He was the former judge of Sahuayo who, back in 2022, allowed the illegal reclassification of Frida’s case to “negligent homicide” and an abbreviated trial, which freed Juan Paulo in 2023. We cannot allow someone who already favored the aggressor to have influence over this case again.

That’s why we maintain and reinforce our demands:
⚖️ That the case be judged as feminicide, as ordered by the Federal Tribunal.
⚖️ That it does not return to Jiquilpan, a prosecutor’s office marked by corruption and favoritism.
⚖️ That the Judiciary guarantees impartiality, without political favors or personal connections.
⚖️ That magistrates act with gender perspective, respecting the rights of victims.
