Update in Parole hearing proceedings

Because each of you has provided time, attention and for many, financial contribution to our cause to block parole for Lionel Villarreal, I wanted to provide an update personally.

October 9th was the expected date of a final decision in parole. As of a phone call conversation today with Crime Victims services in Lansing, that date has been extended. Since covid, the parole board only meets once a month to review findings and recommendations after each parole hearing. They are currently behind with backed up cases.

I did learn in my conversation with our representative that an executive session was held on September 12th with this assigned parole board and the final step of voting is all that is left on my sister’s case, however it could be another 60-90 days to receive.

Please continue to pray, wish and dream with us that our Justice system serves in its fullest capacity for Nicole, especially with the sobering data of a 90% parole lease for violent 1st time offenders in Michigan.  (MDOC has a list of recent offenders and their parole results online for public review if you wish, be forewarned that it’s simply maddening to read.)

Whether a victory is claimed or not, I believe you are all the type of good this world needs more of. Family, friend, and stranger- your support is largely appreciated more than you’ll ever know, my family and I have felt it in our core. Thank you for every effort in this campaign to parole block Mr. Villarreal.
