Yesterday, a weight was lifted from our family’s shoulders. After over a year of campaigning, the NSW Coroner has announced it will establish a coronial inquest into the death of our son, Ricky “Dougie” Hampson Jr.
We went to NSW Parliament to thank everybody involved in helping us fight for the truth, and we delivered a petition of more than 13,700 people like you who backed our family’s call for justice.
Thank you for supporting us, and thank you to Sue Higginson MLC for receiving our petition.
Nothing will bring back our son, but we will now get answers and find out the truth about what happened to Dougie.
We hope the inquest will reveal what led to our son being denied the diagnosis and treatment he deserved at Dubbo Hospital, and why he was treated with bias.
This inquest is desperately needed – not just to give our family the answers we deserve – but to make change in our country’s health system.
So many of our people continue to die from avoidable deaths and no-one has ever been held accountable.
Enough is enough, this needs to change. We don’t want any more First Nations People to die due to lack of care and bias in Australia.
We are asking for accountability for the mistreatment of our son, and for change in the health system towards First Nations People in this country, so we can all feel safe in seeking medical help.
Thank you for standing with us.
