Justice for Yumnu: Investigate Her Fall and Expose Corruption in the Maldives.

The Issue

On 18th April 2025, a 21 year old young woman named Yumnu tragically fell from the 9th floor of a building in the Maldives under highly suspicious circumstances. Initial reports suggested that it was an accident, but mounting evidence now points to foul play. Incredibly, the local authorities have failed to conduct a proper investigation, and instead, the case appears to be covered up likely due to the involvement of powerful figures in the Maldives’ government, who are attempting to suppress the truth.

Yumnu is currently in critical condition in the hospital, on a ventilator and unable to speak, with severe brain injuries. There are growing concerns that those responsible for her fall may now be attempting to finish the job by ensuring she does not survive to expose the truth. Reports suggest that her safety in the hospital is at serious risk, and her family is being denied transparency and support.

Most disturbingly, we have evidence that the CCTV footage of Yuma’s fall was altered. A clear attempt to cover up what truly happened. This evidence points to deliberate tampering to hide the truth, further implicating those who may be behind her fall and the ongoing efforts to silence her.

This is not just a local matter; it is a global issue that threatens the very principles of justice and human rights. The government of the Maldives must be held accountable for failing to properly investigate Yuma’s fall and for allowing those with power to escape justice. The people of the Maldives and the world deserve to know the truth, and Yumnu’s family deserves justice.

We, the undersigned, call on:

 • The United Nations to launch an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yumnu’s fall, the altered CCTV footage, and her subsequent treatment in the hospital.

 • International human rights organizations to monitor the situation and apply pressure for justice in this case.

 • The Maldivian government to release all findings from the investigation and to ensure that those responsible for tampering with evidence and attempting to endanger Yumnu’s life are brought to justice.
