Justice for Yeti

The Issue

Dear [Houston Police Department, Chief of Police, or City Officials],

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Yeriel Rodriguez, a beloved son, brother, and friend, who left this world far too soon at the age of 19. Yeriel was a bright and vivacious young man, known for his boundless energy, infectious smile, and an unmistakable zest for life that touched everyone around him.

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, at approximately 11:01 p.m., our precious Yeriel was tragically taken from us in a horrific hit-and-run accident on the 14000 block of Northwest Freeway, OB. That night, he was traveling westbound on his motorcycle when he was struck by a maroon Jeep Cherokee, a late 1990s model, which caused him to be thrown from his motorcycle. In those vulnerable moments, as he struggled on the ground, he was struck again by a second vehicle, a white Jeep Patriot (model years 2008-2014), which dragged him, causing devastating injuries. The driver of this second vehicle did not stop to render aid, leaving our beloved Yeriel to succumb to his injuries alone on the road.

Petition Goals
Increased Investigative Resources: We urge the Houston Police Department to assign additional resources, including officers and investigators, to prioritize and actively pursue this case.

Enhanced Public Awareness: We seek the support of law enforcement to work alongside media outlets and community organizations to maintain the visibility of this case. Raising public awareness may encourage potential witnesses to come forward with valuable information.

Frequent Case Updates: We respectfully request regular updates on the investigation’s progress to provide our family with some peace of mind during this time of uncertainty.

Community Support and Assistance: We welcome guidance on any actions our family and the community can take to further assist law enforcement in identifying and bringing the individuals responsible to justice.

About Yeriel
Yeriel was more than just a young man; he was a gifted athlete, a dedicated football player, and a passionate boxing connoisseur whose love for sports was infectious. He carried a fierce competitive spirit and inspired his teammates both on the field and in the ring. Beyond athletics, he was an extraordinary soul, always quick to lend a hand or share a joke, lifting the spirits of all around him. His impulsive nature often led to spontaneous adventures and acts of kindness, creating memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

To his family, Yeriel was their joy and pride. His siblings meant the world to him; he was their mentor, protector, and biggest supporter, always guiding them with love and kindness. His generosity and big-hearted spirit made him a cherished friend, brother, and son, whose laughter and energy filled every room.

He leaves behind a heartbroken family: his devoted father, mother, and siblings. We are left with the memories of his joyful spirit, contagious laughter, and the immeasurable love he shared with us.

Incident Details
On the night of August 31, 2024, Yeriel was struck twice—first by a maroon Jeep Cherokee (late 1990s model) and then by a white Jeep Patriot (model years 2008-2014). The impact from the second vehicle was so severe that it dragged him, inflicting catastrophic injuries. Both drivers left the scene without stopping to render aid or call for help. These actions have left our family and community in pain and without answers. We are pleading with anyone who may have information about the vehicles or the drivers to come forward.

Call to Action
By signing this petition, we, the undersigned, urge the Houston Police Department, Chief of Police, or City Officials to prioritize the investigation of this tragic case. We believe that a concentrated effort and continued public awareness are crucial to ensuring that justice is served. No parent should endure the loss of a child with no answers, and no community should tolerate hit-and-run crimes going unanswered.

Our Pledge to Help
As a family, we stand ready to work hand in hand with the police, media, and community resources to keep this case in the public eye. Together, we hope to bring closure and justice not only for our family but also to reinforce the values of accountability and safety within our community.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Yeriel and for any help you can provide. We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support of our community as we navigate this painful journey. Please, stand with us in remembering Yeriel and seeking the justice he deserves.

With deepest gratitude,
Richard Rodriguez and Family
