Response: Another sad update to last night’s update. To clarify, the suspect “turned himself in” accompanied by his Attorney. I’m sure this was in response to, what was likely agreed upon, circumstances that the suspect had adequate time to prepare for. Spend Thanksgiving with your family, Mr. Roberts….then, when you’re ready, come down take your picture, pay $3500 (10% bail) in order to ensure that you would spend less than 2 hours in “custody”. You never have to see the inside of a cop car. I’m sure Mr. Roberts was made to feel more than comfortable. Best of all…he will be home with his family for the Holidays and New Year, because after all, he has his rights.
You know who will not be home to celebrate another birthday, Christmas, New Year, or any occasion? Xyrus Zelaya! Say his name. Know his story. Be his voice!!! Xyrus WAS invited to this party by party goers…regardless of the circumstances, the fact of the matter is that Mr. Roberts’ actions were irresponsible and appalling. A 43 year old “man” “music artist” “entertainer” is supposed to protect our youth, educate our youth, empower our youth…but instead his actions resulted in the death of a son, brother, cousin, nephew, boyfriend, friend, role model. For what? A bruised ego? A power trip because he is old enough to own a gun? I wonder if that is a fate he would accept for his own son?
Please continue to support this family. Xyrus deserves better…our youth deserve better…and Mr. Roberts picked a fight with the wrong family and wrong community. Unlike him…we want to show our community that there are responsible ways of seeking justice. And we will not stop until there is #JusticeForXyrus
