The Issue

Vutlharhi Maluleke, was a vibrant and loving woman whose life was ruthlessly taken when she was shot five times by her husband. This unimaginable act of violence has left our family devastated, and we are demanding justice for Vuthlari. Her husband, who is a former police officer, was someone sworn to protect, but instead became the perpetrator of this horrendous crime.

Vuthlari had dreams and aspirations that were unjustly cut short. She was more than a victim; she was a mother, a sister, and a friend cherished by many. Her life was a testament to resilience and hope; she was ambitious and steadfastly working towards building a better future for herself and her loved ones.

It is alarming and deeply concerning that Vuthlari’s husband is seeking bail. Allowing him to be released on bail not only disrespects Vuthlari's memory but also poses a potential threat to our community. Our justice system must uphold the highest standards and ensure that such heinous acts are met with the full weight of the law. The gravity of the crime demands that he be held accountable without the privilege of bail, to prevent him from evading justice and to protect our community.

According to the South African Police Service, femicide rates in the country are alarmingly high, with many women suffering at the hands of intimate partners. We cannot allow Vuthlari to become another statistic; we owe it to her and all victims of gender-based violence to demand legal reform and strict enforcement of laws against perpetrators.

We implore the court to consider the severity of this crime and deny bail to Vuthlari's husband. This not only serves justice for Vuthlari but also sends a strong message that domestic violence will not be tolerated. Let's stand together to make sure Vuthlari's voice leads to change.

Join us in this fight for justice. Sign this petition to ensure Vuthlari Maluleke's legacy is honored by holding her husband accountable and ensuring he remains in custody throughout the duration of his trial. Your signature will help bring awareness to the epidemic of femicide and support the broader movement for justice and equality for all victims of domestic violence.
