Turkey’s frail body is filled with so much fluid, he can barely walk. His head hangs heavy, and he moans with each agonizing breath. He would’ve died alone in that concrete kennel if someone hadn’t spoken up for him.

 

His owner kept him living outside, suffering in the agonizing heat. Turkey was surrendered because he "gets swollen when it gets hot."  HE CAN’T BREATHE!!! The massive abdomen, swollen limbs, neck, and face are all signs that something is very wrong and that Turkey needed urgent care. How long did someone watch him from the inside of their comfortable home, gasping for air each day and hoping to make it to sundown when he’d get some relief from the oppressive heat?

 

 

Turkey has now seen a vet, who has stabilized him, thanks to an emergency transport arranged by Austin Bulldog Rescue. Despite this, Turkey is in hospice care, with only weeks left to live. He’s been sitting too long in the searing heat, growing weaker as pests took over his body and suffocated him from the inside out.

 

Turkey is infested with long, mature heartworms and has been diagnosed with Anaplasma, a less common tick-borne illness. He’s starved, underweight, severely anemic, and his paw pads are scorched from hot pavement. Living with all this for so long has tipped him into right-sided heart failure. Turkey wasn’t even left by his “family” with a name or age, but they did make it clear they saw his swollen, bloated body and knew he struggled more in the hot sun.

 

 

 

Turkey will live the rest of his days in love, light, and snacks, thanks to Austin Bulldog Rescue. However, we demand justice for Turkey and prosecution of the responsible parties for this severe neglect and abuse.

 

 

 

We, the undersigned, urge Local Authorities/Relevant Departments in the Austin, Texas Travis County region to take immediate action and prosecute Turkey’s former owner for animal cruelty and neglect. The rescue and vet have all the necessary documentation to support prosecution. Let’s ensure that no other animal suffers the same fate as Turkey.
