Dear supporters,
Today marks exactly one year since our beloved Oak was brutally cut down. It has just been revealed that the contractors were a company called Ground Control.
As we take in that news, and continue to push for a criminal investigation, we look back on an eventful year.
- Our campaign has been covered across the media since April 2025
- We began this petition, and with your support hit 50,000 signatures in July 2025
- We worked alongside the Woodland Trust to highlight the need for better UK-wide protections for our ancient heritage trees
- We have robustly rejected the false narrative that the tree was dead or dangerous
- With your help, we have sustained pressure on MPs and the Metropolitan police to carry out a criminal investigation. You can still write a letter here.
- We heard in early 2026 that the Forestry Commission agrees with what we knew: the Oak was alive when felled
- With locals, we oppose the tokenistic eviction of the Carvery pub - a theatrical gesture and a loss for the community
- Raised £30k for our legal challenge this June against the wider site’s destruction by Tottenham Hotspur
The anniversary is an appropriate time for commemoration and sorrow.
However, the spirit of our community grows ever stronger.
The mood on our walks, which you can find out about via our Instagram and WhatsApp, is one of hope and local empowerment.
We are poised to go to court in June to defend the rest of Whitewebbs Park. We hope to prevent the loss of 16 hectares of biodiverse parkland. It is home to thousands of the Whitewebbs Oak’s descendants: the great-grandchildren of our ancient trees which deserve better than to be felled unaccountably.
We hope that you will continue to push for justice for the Whitewebbs Oak, and come take part in our campaign to protect the park.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for being on this journey with us. 🌱
