We, concerned citizens and advocates for justice, stand united in our demand to keep Luis Barreto Hassan behind bars and prevent his and other violent criminals release from prison. This petition aims to shed light on the "Compassionate release program" for people who commit heinous crimes including by this individual and emphasize the importance of upholding justice for the victims and their families.

1. Case Background:

On December 2, 1990, Luis Barrett Hassen shot his victim Kristina Lazzarini in the head and killed her.  He then placed the gun in Kristina's dead hand in the failed attempt to make this brutal murder look like a suicide. This horrible day was also Kristina's 27th birthday.

Hassan was a police officer and should be held to a higher standard due to the nature of his job. When he committed this homicide he was off duty as a police officer for the Los Angeles Housing Authority. Hassan also was previously a police officer for the Cathedral City Police Department, in Riverside County, CA.

Hassan was found guilty of committing a brutal murder. The details of this crime are deeply disturbing and have left an indelible mark on society. It is crucial to remember that this person has been convicted beyond reasonable doubt, ensuring that justice was served.

2. Severity of the Crime:
The nature of Hassan's offense cannot be understated. The evidence presented during the trial clearly demonstrated premeditation, extreme violence, or other aggravating factors that led to loss of life. Such acts not only violate our laws but also inflict immeasurable pain upon innocent victims' families.

3. Public Safety Concerns:
Releasing Hassan would pose a significant risk to public safety. Studies have shown that individuals convicted of violent crimes, especially murder, are more likely to reoffend compared to other offenders (source: National Institute of Justice). By keeping them incarcerated, we can ensure the protection of our communities from potential harm.

4. Impact on Victims' Families:
Granting release or parole would disregard the rights and needs of the victims' families who continue to suffer from irreparable emotional trauma caused by this heinous crime (source: Victim Support Foundation). They are forced to relive this trauma through every parole hearing and now this ridiculous new law, that should not include people who commit violent crimes. It is essential that we prioritize their well-being by denying any possibility for further distress through premature release.

5. Upholding Judicial Integrity:
Releasing Hassan could undermine the public's trust in our justice system. It is crucial to demonstrate that our courts and legal processes are effective in holding individuals accountable for their actions. By keeping this convicted murderer behind bars, we send a clear message that society will not tolerate such heinous crimes.

In conclusion, we firmly believe that releasing Luis Barreto Hassan would be an injustice to the victims and their families, jeopardize public safety, and undermine the integrity of our judicial system. We urge the relevant authorities to consider these factors seriously and deny any request for early release or parole.

Together, let us stand united against violence and ensure justice prevails
