BudgIT Ghana Urges President Mahama to Combat Galamsey Crisis Amid Water Shortage in Tarkwa.

The shutdown of the Bonsa Water Treatment Plant, a critical provider of potable drinking water for millions of Ghanaians, underscores the devastating and fast-deteriorating state of affairs in the country with regard to the "galamsey" situation. The plant, provides 75% of Ghanaians in about 438 communities in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem area such as Tarkwa, Abosso, Nsuaem, Dompim, Nsuta, Simpa, Bonsa, Benso, Dadwen, Agona etc, which make up approximately 450,00 locals, is the primary source of potable water for drinking and business, and presents a bleak portent over concerns of Ghana having to import water in the coming years.
