Please help our family get the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) to investigate:

Tanner Zancanella, age 19, was found dead in his bed with a gunshot wound to his head on April 11, 2022 in New Castle, CO. It was quickly ruled a homicide. His mother, Darlene Brooks, was found dead the day prior with a gun in her hand and it was ruled a suicide.

Rather than doing proper investigative work, the police instantly ruled it a "murder-suicide", despite the fact that the bodies were found >24-hours apart and there was no real evidence suggesting he was killed by his mother. When questioned about this, the police reported that they were "short staffed". The case was referred to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) for further review.

That was over 8 months ago. CBI has not contacted one family member, interviewed one friend, nor have they checked ballistics or whether the bullets from both bodies even match.

The local police are only willing to check things out, like cell phone history for instance, at the insistent prodding of the family (but have yet to deliver any answers). 

Additionally, the family has been given no solid answers when bringing up things like:

• Darlene's suicide note was primarily instructions for how to take care of Tanner, and a check for $40,000 written to Tanner. Why would she leave a letter *regarding the continuation of his life after her absence* along with a significant amount of money and then shoot him? She was suffering from depression but she loved her son.
• Darlene had a recent back surgery and was not very mobile at the time. She would have had to wedge between Tanner's bed and a window and bend down to shoot him. Do ballistics match her height as well as disability?
• There was no evidence of Darlene shooting Tanner, i.e no blood on her. Police said her body had been washed for autopsy by the time Tanner was found and nothing had been collected. So how can they prove she shot him if they collected no evidence?
• Tanner was found ~28 hours after Darlene and was described by the coroner as being in "Rigor Mortis", not liver mortis. So wouldn't that mean he was likely shot within 24 hours and not the 30+ hours that would more accurately match the timeline if he were shot before Darlene?
• 4 bullets were found but only 3 bodies (including the dog, which was found shot in Darlene's room), what happened with the 4th?
• Were all the bullets even from the same gun?
• The police collected no evidence (clothing, phones, fingerprints, etc.) from the people that found Tanner. To our knowledge, they did not collect any fingerprints, blood, fluid, fiber, handwriting, or any type of sample whatsoever from any of the rooms. In fact, no search of the home was conducted after they found Darlene's body, so no one can even say with certainty whether or not Tanner's body was in the home at the time that Darlene died.  (His father claims no knowledge of his whereabouts before his body was discovered the following day.) Why not? Did they just assume it was murder suicide before even investigating? Why not at least consider other suspects? What if there is still a murderer running free?

This was a horrific event for the whole family and we simply want answers. Even if it was a murder-suicide, it does not seem too much to ask for the police to do their jobs and prove it. Otherwise, do not label our family member a murderer without proof. And don't ignore the murder of another family member if it's possible there's another killer out there.
