Justice for Tank

The Issue

Meet our rotten boy Tank. (Picture on left is Tank two days before he went to the trainer and the three other pictures are of Tank when he was picked up). Tank has been with us since he was just a few weeks old. Tank licks his paws and has a history of occasionally rubbing his upper back in a quarter sized area. These are all very well documented by his vet as he sees her every 6 weeks for allergy shots and takes allergy medication by mouth twice daily. Tank is spoiled rotten and very bougie as he even gets his hiney wiped after he poops because well that’s how it should be Tank is very very protective of Celestine and I. It took Brent feeding him treats for three years before he liked him! Tank loves to kiss us in the face and lay on us as close as he can get. I sought a trainer that would work with him on being nicer to guests in our home so he wouldn’t bark at them the entire visit and at Thanksgiving he snapped at a friends ankle when he got close to me with my back turned. I found one and was promised that he would get Tank trained and we made arrangements to drop Tank off on December 26th because we wanted him home with us for Christmas. *This picture was taken on Christmas Day.

I have texts where I checked in on tank almost every two days. About the time I thought he should be running low on food and meds I questioned it and was told in a text that he indeed had ran out of food but he could just give him some if he didn’t have to have the grain free like I had provided. I instructed him no that he had to have it and should I bring some that night? He said no that he was good for that day and  the next morning for me to just leave it and the refill of meds on the porch. I did so and messaged him that it was there. Remember Tank had been there since 12/26 per the trainer not making much progress because of the rain and he was stubborn. I did receive one text that was casual from the trainer that states tank was licking his paws again and i replied that it was getting time for his allergy shots. Now remember I have very good documentation from the vet that he has only licked his front two paws and scratched a quarter size area on his upper back region.  On 2/15/23 I receive a call from a concerned family member that one of the other owners that was called to pick up their dog that same day asked about Tank. They were told that Tank was inside away from the others having skin issues. I then asked the trainer for a FaceTime call. During this call Tank looked awful. Tank was in a cage  inside. All that I could see in the call was that he was filthy, the water bowl was empty and there was blood on the floor of the kennel. I called the vet immediately and alerted the trainer that I was on my way to get him.

I cannot explain the guilt that I felt when I got him home and Celestine and I put him in the tub for a better look. Tank cried out with us just touching him and is so jittery with any noise whatsoever. Tank was seen by the Vet the next available appointment which was two days after picking him up. Tank had lost weight, muscle mass, had pressure sores on every single bony prominence, ulcers in his anal cavity, stools were bloody, he was so dehydrated that Tank required surgery for stones that had formed and he was missing his bottom middle tooth. Tank was missing skin from his nose and his neck region was raw with blisters. This was all reported to animal control from all three animals that were picked up that day. The trainer was given tasks to complete to get to code immediately and I am told that he was fined. I have not seen proof of that myself. We insisted that this go to the Sherriffs department for review. Tank has still not recovered and is startled very easily. But what hurts me the most is other animals are not protected because he cannot be “charged” because animals have no voice to say what truly happened…as i was told by officials! if you fined him then something was wrong at that training area.. so now we go to civil court…***animals may not have a voice but pictures are worth a thousand words***last post is next and it breaks my heart the most.

Our Sweet Tank that has always protected Celestine and I now is terrified at the least little sound or touch that he doesn’t see ahead of time. If you close a door on him and he cannot be in an open area with us he will chew the door. He bit Celestine two weeks ago with no warning. Three ER visits and a hospital admission she has been through for something that we cannot blame him for. I know in my heart that he was severely mistreated. I share all of this with all of you so that you do your homework before taking your animals ANYWHERE to ANYONE whether you might know them or not…call and see if they have ever had an investigation against them. I wish that I would have. For the record I Did Reach out and ask the trainer to help me with expenses so that I would not have to take this to court. Three times I messaged with no response.
